Virtual Communties

Second Life has become an addictive game that lets kids enter into a new world. It has helped some kids who are dealing with an abusive home life to feel free for a few hours. The game is addictive and kids can get in touch with people that they do not know. That is highly dangerous. The object of the game is to create a virtual world where all people can find something meaningful to do, but that is whee most predators. This relationship refers to the Obama campaign because he also used the power of the Internet to attract millions of people at one time. The Internet can be harmful and is also a great tool all at once. Children go on these websites and communities hoping to fund new friends and some people just want to cause trouble.

President Obama and Technology

The Obama campaign used technology to their advance during the March 4th primaries. He ended up winning that division with a significant lead over Hilary Clinton. Hilary Clinton also used the web but had far less supporters. The Obama camp used technology to surpass her. MyBO(the Obama website) garnered so many donations that it set a record. Throughout the entire political season. Obama used the media and technology to their advantage and won the hearts of many. I think that this was a very effective method because many Americans were keeping up with the election and the debate through the internet. He was able to reach millions of people. The site also made it very easy to donate money by giving the credit card option and signing up for a monthly newsletter. The Obama speeches were veiwed millions of time on social networking sites such as youtube and Myspace. President Obama proved that the Internet is very powerful and useful. It can also tear you down if you take what the comments say to heart.

PBS Presentation

In the PBS Presentation, I learned that the youth spend entirely too much time on the Internet. Teenagers in general spend most of their time on myspace and facebook instead of with their families. Its really sad. The video showed so many young kids being sucked in by the media and not paying attention to what is important. A young boy was updating his profile at night before he went to bed and not even paying attention to his parents. Young girls were meeting men that they thought were boys their own age. The Internet can be a very dangerous place if parents don't get involved. I think that all parents should monitor their kids account because their are so many pedophiles and people who are sex offenders. The Internet is really important now for younger kids and middle school kids. Its like an epidemic.Teenagers and kids need to learn to balance the Internet and your home life because too much Internet is a bad thing.
